National 70-Amp N300 Installation on PA-38-112 TomahawkNewly manufactured Maximum Performance National N300 alternators are available to retrofit virtually all Piper aircraft originally equipped with Chrysler, Prestolite or Electrosystems alternators. The National alternators are available in either 14 volt 70 or 100 amp configuration, and provide a maximum available power boost for Piper operators needing the greater power and reliability of a newly manufactured, heavy duty alternator.

Many Piper operators have upgraded their aircraft to the National N300 70 amp alternators, benefiting from increased output at normal engine operating speeds, much lower radio noise and a marked increase in overall reliability. However, because of owner demand for even greater power handling capacity, National introduced its ultra-heavy duty 14 volt 100 amp small case alternators. These replacements for 60 and 70 amp OEM Prestolite alternators allow Piper operators to replace their trouble-prone Prestolite alternators with BRAND NEW heavy duty alternators able to satisfy the most demanding electrical requirements — on virtually any Piper model.

While all of these new National alternators are approved as direct replacements for lower-powered OEM units, with no wiring or voltage regulator change required, most operators obviously elect to perform a simple wiring upgrade on the aircraft system, allowing full benefit of the N300’s much improved power generating capacity. Rated at 12 volts, 100 amps output, the increased current capability of the National alternator translates into increased performance margins, cooler operation and greatly extended service life, compared to the OEM 60-70 amp alternators. The enhanced design of the National N300 also provides much smoother operation, lower vibration and increased clearances in the engine compartment. At a weight of approximately 11 lb., the N300 also boasts a weight savings over most of the OEM units.

National 100-Amp N300 Installation on PA-28R-200 ArrowThe National C312R replacement for Chrysler alternators allows vast numbers of Piper Cherokee operators to replace their old-technology Chrysler alternators with modern, BRAND NEW heavy duty alternators rated at either 70 or 100 amps continuous output. The increased current capability of the National alternator translates into an substantial performance margin, cooler operation and greatly extended service life compared to the OEM 40-60 amp alternators. As with the Prestolite replacement alternators, most operators obviously elect to perform a simple wiring upgrade of the aircraft system in order to take full advantage of the alternator’s greater capability.

The National C312R Chrysler retrofit alternators are built to critical standards of fit, finish and performance, using premium quality components specified for aircraft use applications. Critical electrical hardware is stainless steel, and cases are of a special corrosion resistant finish. During manufacture, emphasis is given to precision-balance the rotor for ultra-smooth operation at high speeds, and extensive radio suppression measures are incorporated into the basic alternator design. This results in an extremely quiet, long-life alternator capable of the performance demanded by today’s high electrical use requirements.

Warranty for these alternators, as with all new National AirParts alternators, remains at the industry-setting standard of 2 years or 600 operating hours.
